This page explains how reflection is an important use in our lives and for the advancement of technology

Fiber Optics

Uses the principle of total internal reflection. Light that is traveling in a medium with a high refractive index (water, glass, plastic) surrounded by a medium with a lower refractive index (air), and hits a boundary at a shallow angle, will be totally reflected inside the high refractive medium. The fiber optics tube, made from pure glass that is .5 mm in diameter, carries signals in the form of light pulses for long distances. Fiber optics is used in telephone cables and endoscopes (devices used to look inside the body).
